When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation.
President Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, 268

Sometimes I want to run before I can walk. Or walk before I can crawl. We all know the saying. But it makes complete sense. We can only achieve something by taking that first step. Line upon line is how the Lord works. It's a natural law. I would venture to say it's also an eternal law as well.
It's comforting to know that our Savior is ahead of us up on the ladder. He has to come down to our level to reach us, but He extends His hand to us and lifts us up to the next step, and then the next, and the next, and so on
Moment after moment, that's all He does. He has no other purpose. He raises us to the next rung. And, theoretically, we are climbing more than one ladder because we are not, for the most part, improving line upon line in only one thing. And.... He does this for every single person on this earth, and everyone that was on this earth, and everyone still to come to this earth.
Then multiply that by the many, many worlds He created. That's a lot of people. I don't know how He can do this for the individual, but He does. For the one...and the many. All we have to do is ask Him to help.
As I increase line upon line, one day, I will know.
