The Lord has placed currents of divine influence in your life that will lead you along the individual plan He would have you fulfill here on earth. Seek through the Spirit to identify it and carefully follow that direction that the Lord has put in your life. Align yourself with it. Choose, willingly, to exercise your agency to follow it. Do not be overcome by concentrating solely on today, its challenges, difficulties, and opportunities. Such preoccupations must not totally capture your attention so as to consume your life. Oh, how I would encourage you to weave deeply into the fabric of your soul the recognition that your life now is a part of a much bigger plan the Lord has for you. You lived part of it in the premortal existence. You were valiant there and came here because you wanted to grow and enjoy greater happiness. What you decide to do now will affect how well you fulfill that divine, personal plan He has for you.
Elder Richard G. Scott, "He Lives", Ensign. November 1999
I've been thinking a lot about my life, my plan and whether I'm aligned now with what I agreed to in the pre-existence. Also, if any decision I make now affects at all what I knew then would be my life. In other words, if I decide to do this one certain thing now, will that completely alter my life going forward? Or, did God foresee that I would decide this one thing and, therefore, it's already a part of my plan? Can I "trick" God by not making my usual choice given my usual tendency?
The way I see it, is that God is omniscient. Not in the sense that we mortals understand "all-knowing" to be. Because our understanding of the knowledge of anything and everything is still limited. For example, He knew what would happen in my life on day 16618, on hour 16, and minute 5, and second 34. That happens to be now for me, well, it was now. Now its then. 😁 He knew this long before I even came to this earth. How? Because He is omniscient. There is nothing that He doesn't know. There is no "re-planning" or going back to the drawing board because I did something stupid or unexpected. He already knew I would.
So, if choose to "not" take a nap in 5 minutes but instead read? Or watch a show or a game? Well, He knows which decision I will make...long before I'm even presented with that decision. Even before I was born did He know what I would choose to do now. However minute that seemingly unimportant decision is...or was.
So that begs the question. Did He sit down with us and go over every single moment of our lives , in a film study session of sorts, in the pre-existence? Or did He just go over the highlights? And how much time did we have to prepare to come here from the moment we opened our "call"?
And does going over every moment account for those moments here that we experience as "deja vu"? Or, is that phenomenon just a mis-alignment in our brains between our short-term memories and our consciousness (I have a theory on that too)? Or, is it both?
Lastly, some more food for thought. Given that He already knows the outcome, can we change that outcome? Or does He already know that we will try to change it? In other words, if we are living a terrestrial kingdom worthy life, can we change it by living a celestial kingdom worthy life from now on? And vice-versa, if we somehow go backwards? And does He already know where we will end up? And, if so, why put in the effort? Unless....that putting in of the effort was already planned for and He knew we would exercise faith to put in said effort. 😁
