The only safety we have as members of this church is to . . . learn to give heed to the words and commandments that the Lord shall give through his prophet. . . . There will be some things that take patience and faith. You may not like what comes. . . . It may contradict your political views. It may contradict your social views. It may interfere with . . . your social life. But if you listen to these things, as if from the mouth of the Lord himself, . . . “the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; . . . and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you" (D&C 21:6).
Harold B. Lee, Conference Report, 1970

There seems to be a different mood in the air, a solemnity, when the prophet speaks, at least for me anyway. Of course, I do savor and enjoy all the words of the Lord's servants, especially the apostles, because they are speaking the Lord's words, but those words are being spoken through them. When the prophet speaks, it's as if the Lord Himself was standing at the pulpit speaking.
When President Nelson spoke earlier today, I had a clear impression that the Lord was speaking straight to me. Even though President Nelson was on the TV, his eyes seemed to be looking directly at me, piercing into my soul. I received a clear sense on what I needed to do going forward. I won't go into details because this impression was personal and sacred to me. Suffice it to say, this was as real to me as are the promises in my patriarchal blessing. Not just personal revelation, but personal revelation with a promise.
