November 30, 2020 - Help Gather Israel

My dear young brothers and sisters, these surely are the latter days, and the Lord is hastening His work to gather Israel. That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty. And if you choose to, if you want to, you can be a big part of it. You can be a big part of something big, something grand, something majestic!
Anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel. It is as simple as that.

President Russell M. Nelson, "Hope of Isreal", Worldwide Youth Devotional, June 3, 2018

When I think of "gathering Israel" , I think foremost of missionary work. You know, proselyting, tracting, knocking on doors, inviting. However, while that is a big part of it, it is not the only way to gather Israel.

I would often wonder if I'm doing anything at all to help gather Israel. Then, whether I'm doing enough of that "anything at all". Of course, there is always room for improvement. There is always that much more I can and should do.

But I take comfort in President Nelson's words...."anything" that I do to help others learn of the gospel, help others accept the truth therein, help strengthen testimonies, help recommit to the Lord, help move forward on the covenant path, and even get on the covenant path in the first place, show kindness and positivity to others (from which they'll show kindness and positivity to the next person, and so on) or just be an example of Christlike attributes where possible... I am gathering Israel...or helping to.

That is how I can help gather Israel. I don't need to drive and physically go visit others, knock on doors, and preach the gospel. I don't even need to physically be in the same vicinity as another to serve them, to help them, to encourage them. But, I do need to be thinking of another, praying for another, reaching out to another, serving another, and loving another...no matter what.
