May 9, 2021 - To the women in my life

As daughters of God, you have an innate and great capacity to sense the needs of others and to love. That, in turn, makes you more susceptible to the whisperings of the Spirit. The Spirit can then guide what you think, what you say, and what you do to nurture people so the Lord may pour knowledge, truth, and courage upon them.

Elder Henry B. Eyring, "Women and Gospel Learning in the Home", General Conference, October 2018

It is difficult for me to truly understand the divine abilities and capacities of women. I can only understand by what they tell me. And I'm sure the words are insufficient to explain that to me adequately. Men don't really know how women feel, what they're capable of, and the importance of them in God's Plan of Salvation. We can understand but we don't really know.

It's that way for a reason. For the life of me, I can't understand why society wants to minimize and marginalize those abilities in women, particularly by saying that women should be equal to men. Why? Isn't that a step backwards for them? I understand the significance of women and men being equal in the eyes of society, and I agree that it should be that way in terms of responsibility and economy and professionalism and justice. But, women have abilities and capabilities that men don't have. Frankly, women have inherently more, and more developed, Christlike attributes than men. Why on earth would you want them to be on equal ground as a man?

I am so grateful for the women in my life. I am grateful for their examples and for their love and understanding. I am grateful for my own mother and the many things I learned and continue to learn from her. She set the foundation of who I am in this world. And I am grateful for my sisters and sisters in law too. They all have a special, unique quality that I try to incorporate into my life, which makes me better.

But I am especially grateful for my wife, Lori. I love her more than I can express to her, but I try anyway. I am learning to show that love rather than try to just express it. She has abilities, capabilities, attributes, and qualities that would cause me hours and hours of writing if I were to list all of them here, so I will spare the reader. She drives me to keep fighting through my battles, to keep trying. She holds me up and helps me stand straighter. She makes me want to be a better man. She teaches me by just being herself. I learn so much from her. I am truly blessed that she is by my side, well, actually, she pulls me along most of the time and lifts me higher. 😁 I live each day trying to be worthy of her.

I love my daughters too, Kenzie and Elle. They are extraordinary examples of love, discipline, determination, compassion, enduring, patience, honesty, and humility. They also teach me by just being who they are. I am blessed to have them in my life. I am truly blessed they decided to come here, to this family. I love them and they will always have a piece of my heart.
