The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Jack London
I heard this quote watching the latest James Bond movie (of all places). This was quoted at the end and it hit me pretty hard. So I looked it up. This was said by Jack London.
Story goes that Jack London said this to a group of friends just two weeks before his death. Not sure if he knew if he was going to die. He had kidney disease and died at age 40. Jack London, of course, was the author of many books, including "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang", among other works.
Anyway, this hit me hard because I often just sit and waste my time given to me here on earth by doing mindless activities. Sitting here, waiting to die, in other words. And, the more I sit, the quicker that death will come.
So, I need to wake up. Physically, spiritually, mentally. Satan, more often than not, isn't just tempting us to do bad things, although he sure does that too, but he's keeping us from doing good things.

"O that ye would awake; awake from a deep sleep, yea, even from the sleep of hell, and shake off the awful chains by which ye are bound, which are the chains which bind the children of men, that they are carried away captive down to the eternal gulf of misery and woe." - 2 Nephi 1:13
We are all bound with chains, some are engulfed tighter than others and some are wrapped up with many chains, or a longer chain wrapped many more times around. But, regardless, we are all bound. Whether being bound from sin, or from mistakes, that we have committed. Or bound from procrastination. Or from laziness. Or from the lack of motivation. We all have chains to shake off. We all have weakness. We all have heavy yokes.
Only One can help us remove these chains. Only One can help us "awaken". He is the way, the truth, and the life.
