I testify that America is a choice land. (See 2 Ne. 1:5.) God raised up the founding fathers of the United States of America and established the inspired Constitution. (See D&C 101:77–80.) This was the required prologue for the restoration of the gospel. (See 3 Ne. 21:4.) America will be a blessed land unto the righteous forever and is the base from which God will continue to direct the worldwide latter-day operations of His kingdom. (See 2 Ne. 1:7.)
President Ezra Taft Benson, "I Testify", General Conference, October 1988
America is, and will continue to be, a choice land. A land of freedom. A land that we can do whatever we decide to do on it. It's our decision to follow the covenant path or not. Nobody can decide that for us.
We are blessed to live here. Today, but everyday as well, we are extremely proud and thankful for those that put themselves in harm's way every day, especially for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, so that we can have those freedoms. So that we can decide to follow Christ or not and everything that goes with that decision.
We are doubly blessed to not only have the inspired Constitution that protects our freedoms but we also have God's Constitution, His gospel, that makes us free as we follow the truths, the eternal truths.
It's human nature to become lackadaisical or take things for granted, especially in moments of peace. Usually, we don't appreciate something fully until it's gone. So, please, let's focus on what we do have, on what we can do, our rights and freedoms, the truths of the gospel, and on having the Holy Ghost as our guide. I will do it too. I need to. I take a lot for granted and I don't mean to.
