March 6, 2022 - Mist of Darkness

If you are constantly surrounded by a “mist of darkness,” turn to Heavenly Father. Nothing that you have experienced can change the eternal truth that you are His child and that He loves you. Remember that Christ is your Savior and Redeemer, and God is your Father. They understand. Picture Them close by you, listening and offering support. “[They] will console you in your afflictions.” Do all you can, and trust in the Lord’s atoning grace.

Sister Reyna I. Aburto, "Thru Cloud and , Lord, Abide with Me!", General Conference, October 2019

Sometimes we feel like we are constantly shrouded in trials and challenges, like there is ALWAYS something to deal with. Some of us even feel like a cloud of darkness is always enveloping us. This is not unlike Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

Two things come to mind. One, is a mist of darkness was seen in Lehi's dream of the Tree of Life. It is a tool Satan uses to get us to fall away. If we are not holding on to the iron rod, this mist of darkness will cause us to get lost. We must hold tight. Even tighter especially now as the mist of darkness gets heavier and thicker.

And, two, even though darkness surrounds us, we DO NOT need to be in the dark. What's interesting is that in the absence of light, there is dark, not the other way around. So we must invite the light in, which takes action on our part. We need to do some thing. That's not passive. Darkness is passive, light is active. So, if we're passive, guess what will envelope us? But if we're active, light envelopes us.

Christ is the source of light that overcomes any void, any darkness. We just need to invite Him in.
