March 30, 2020 – Justification vs Sanctification

30 And we know that justification through the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is just and true;

31 And we know also, that sanctification through the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is just and true, to all those who love and serve God with all their mights, minds, and strength.

  1. D&C 20:30-31

There are two phases that we pass through in life through the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Even His Atonement. The first is “justification”. Justification is the forgiveness of sin. Christ is the only way to receive that forgiveness. And, it happens constantly. Because we constantly need that forgiveness. Recommendedly, we should be seeking repentance on a daily basis. Then, we are forgiven, we are justified. Justification is an event.

“Sanctification”, however, is a process. Even a life-long process. Where justification is when we stop sinning through repentance. Sanctification is removing the desire to sin in the first place. It is a new heart.

These two processes are only feasible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Walk with Him. Learn of Him. Seek justification through Him daily. Pursue sanctification through Him in every moment.
