March 28, 2021 - One Step Closer

The gospel is not a secret. It is not complicated or hidden. It can unlock the door to true happiness. It is not someone’s theory or proposition. It does not come from man at all. It springs from the pure and everlasting waters of the Creator of the universe, who knows truths we cannot even begin to comprehend. And with that knowledge, He has given us the gospel—a divine gift, the ultimate formula for happiness and success.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "The Way of the Disciple", General Conference, April 2009

Today, we begin what is termed the "holy week". The week that Jesus Christ culminated His earthly ministry and performed the reason He came to earth in the first place, His mission. Today is Palm Sunday.

His mission was for us. We are the reason He did what He did. If He hadn't, we wouldn't be able to overcome death, both spiritually and physically. He was born into this world for three reasons, according to Tad R. Callister, and those are; His message, His ministry, and His mission.

His message teaches us the truths we need, but He could've done that from heaven or have another spread His message, He didn't need to come to earth for that.

His ministry was to serve the people of this earth. He blessed others. He comforted the anxious and heartached. He healed the sick and infirm. He raised the dead. But... He didn't need to come to earth for that. He could've just authorized others to do all that in His place.

However, His mission only He and He alone could do. He needed to come to earth for this. He suffered ridicule, He suffered humiliation, He suffered scorn. He suffered pains and sorrow. He suffered immense, immense pressure causing Him to bleed from every pore. Not only did He suffer in Gethsemane, but He suffered it all over again on the cross at Golgotha. He then freely gave His life, all of this for a ransom so that we, you and me, didn't have to suffer like He did and so we could overcome physical as well as spiritual death.

He did everything He did for you and me. He continues to do everything He does for you and me. Never did, and never does He do anything for Himself. It is always for you and me.

Today, it is my plan, to make a positive change in my life, pointing my life towards my own mission on this earth. Christ provided the way. On Palm Sunday, He started His final journey. On this Palm Sunday, I will start my own journey to be intentionally one step closer towards Him.
