The basic pattern [when listening to the prophet or apostles] is to identify the fundamental doctrine or principle that is being taught, find invitations to act related to that doctrine or principle, and then also recognize the promised blessings that will come as we act in accordance with that invitation.

I read this today and thought it was very useful to my studies. I then figured it would be useful to share here as well.
I read a lot of general conference talks but I don't really listen to or read them specifically in this context of identifying the principle being taught, discover the invitations to take, then recognize the blessing when I do act according to that invitation.
I trust that now when I do listen to or read these talks, and as I focus more on the 3 things, that I will have my heart and eyes opened a bit more to what Heavenly Father is telling me, or trying to.
He is most likely always talking to me but I need to learn how to listen. Maybe this will help me listen a bit more.
