Look at how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness.
Anne Frank
There are a lot of thoughts rolling around in my head around light and darkness. The first scripture that comes to mind is in Genesis 1:3. When the Lord was creating this world, Heavenly Father sent Him down to put together these elements and create this world. Then, He said, "let there be light". What's very interesting to me is the fact that He said "Let" there be light. The light has always existed. He just told the elements to bring it in and allow it to shine.
So, as we go through life, there is a lot, a lot of darkness out there. From the evils of pornography and sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, mental and physical abuse, and emotional abuse. Some of which is now "acceptable" in today's society because people are who they are and it can't be helped, they say. And most of that evil will become acceptable as more time goes on, I'm afraid. The world is getting darker. From abortions, to collusion in politics and industry, to violence and murder, to whatever's on the 6 o'clock news.
We absolutely need to be intentional in letting the light in, or the darkness will absolutely overtake us. We, myself included, need to be better about carrying a lit candle with us. That candle is Christ. He IS the light. He is the only light. We need to let Him in and be intentional about having Him with us everywhere so we can see amidst the darkness.
