During the past few months I have had the impression come to me that the best way to help the current world situation is for all people to rely more fully upon God and to turn their hearts to Him through sincere prayer. Humbling ourselves and seeking heaven’s inspiration to endure or conquer what is before us will be our safest and surest way to move confidently forward through these troubling times.
President M. Russell Ballard, "Watch Ye Therefore, and Pray Always", General Conference, October 2020
When I see what's going on in the world today, I think of the City of Enoch. Did they ever have to deal with these things?
Of course they did. In fact, Elder Bruce R. McConkie says that "[Enoch’s] was a day of wickedness and evil, a day of darkness and rebellion, a day of war and desolation, a day leading up to the cleansing of the earth by water."
We live in such a time. In many aspects, it's worse. We are, afterall, in the last and final dispensation. It's supposed to be bad and get much worse.
Now, Heavenly Father will not cleanse the earth again with water. But, He will cleanse it, one final time. What's the opposite of water? Fire! We need that protection. We need our "fire suit", the armor of God.
When I think about the City of Enoch, it gives me great hope that that can also happen to us, to me. It will require a lot of work, a lot of effort. But it is definitely possible.
I need to turn my heart to God....completely. I need to trust Him, rely on Him, submit to Him. If everyone did just that, striving towards that end, imagine what the world would be like. Imagine what life, would be like. But...that starts with me internally before it will be possible externally.
