March 15, 2020 – Love thy neighbor

“You can have the utmost assurance that your power will be multiplied many times by the Lord. All He asks is that you give your best effort and your whole heart. Do it cheerfully and with the prayer of faith. The Father and His Beloved Son will send the Holy Ghost as your companion to guide you. Your efforts will be magnified in the lives of the people you serve. And when you look back on what may now seem trying times of service and sacrifice, the sacrifice will have become a blessing, and you will know that you have seen the arm of God lifting those you served for Him, and lifting you.”

  1. President Henry B. Eyring, “Rise to Your Call”, General Conference, October 2002

Three things I take from this quote. First, is that we will have power to do what is needed for ourselves and others. I literally take that to mean actual power in areas where I physically cannot do what is needed. If I need to walk 10 miles, He will give me that ability, that power, to do what is necessary.

Second, our efforts will be magnified. Even if we can only give 10% of what someone else needs, the Lord will make it so they get 100% of what they need. He will magnify our abilities in a manner that will give them 100% assistance or answers to their prayers.

Third, as we lift others, the Lord not only helps lift them with us, but He lifts us ourselves too. Meaning, as they get 100% of what they need, we get 100% of what we need.

Two great commandments is all we need to focus on and all others will take care of themselves because we are truly following the two great ones. Love God and love our fellow man (and woman).
