The truth is... that even the person you think the worst off—and in some cases that may be yourself—even that personality that it has been most difficult for you to forgive will be, in a century or two, in such a condition that if you saw him or her your first impulse would be to kneel in reverence. The truth is that the embryo within the worst of us is divine. The truth is that there is nothing you can do to really destroy that fact. The potential is there.
Truman G. Madsen, "The Highest In Us", BYU Speeches, March 3, 1974
President Lorenzo Snow once said "as man is, God once was, and as God is, man may become". The word "man" obviously meaning the whole of humanity, men and women.
The point is, we all have divine heredity. It is a part of who we are. Our Father is perfect and He created each and every one of us with that exact potential....we can likewise be perfect. It may take a bit, or in my case a long while, but we each can be perfect.
What does potential mean exactly?
It means that you and I have the inherent ability, the capability, and the capacity to become perfect. Perfect! Even if we may not think it's there, it is there. Let that sink in. Granted, it will not happen in this life, it will not happen for aeons, but it will absolutely happen, if we are striving that way.
Think about this...what we deem to be the worst of all humanity still has divine potential. The potential is there. It is up to each one of us to strive toward that potential.
And we do not have to go it alone or strive towards our potential alone. Our Brother, Jesus Christ, is there to help each and every one of us take each and every step to reach our potential, in many cases He is carrying us.
Little by little, as we take a step forward, getting up when we are knocked down, climbing over our obstacles, we are becoming stronger. The stronger we become, the closer to our divine potential we are.
