June 4, 2021 - Move Mountains

Through your faith, Jesus Christ will increase your ability to move the mountains in your life, even though your personal challenges may loom as large as Mount Everest.
Your mountains may be loneliness, doubt, illness, or other personal problems. Your mountains will vary, and yet the answer to each of your challenges is to increase your faith. That takes work.

President Russell M. Nelson, "Christ Is Risen; Faith in Him Will Move Mountains", General Conference, April 2021

Just yesterday, my thought was about how we needed to climb mountains in order to get stronger, in order to increase our faith.

As I thought about that and the fact that our faith can possibly move those mountains out of the way altogether, I wondered then, that if I need faith to move mountains.... and in order to get faith in the first place is to climb mountains....which needs to be done first? It seems like a chicken and egg situation.

Two things came to mind as I pondered this a bit more...

One, there will always be more than one mountain to climb. Rarely is life only going to give us one obstacle to conquer then done. No, once we conquer one, then it's on to the next. Many times, life is even requiring us to conquer smaller obstacles while in the midst of climbing over bigger ones. Needless to say, some mountains we have to climb and some we can move out of the way, according to our faith and God's will.

Two, speaking of God's will, our ability to move mountains is because of the power of God. And in order for those mountains to move, that has to be in accordance with the will of God. If He wants us to move that mountain, then it will move. If He doesn't want us to move it and needs us to climb instead, then climb is what we'll do.

And notice that President Nelson says "Jesus Christ will increase your ability" to move mountains, so maybe our ability isn't there yet until we climb enough mountains to eventually be able to move them. The Lord knows what we need, when we need it....and if we need to climb or not.
