June 18, 2020 - Chariots of Fire

"Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha." [2 Kings 6:16–17]
In the gospel of Jesus Christ you have help from both sides of the veil, and you must never forget that. When disappointment and discouragement strike—and they will—you remember and never forget that if our eyes could be opened we would see horses and chariots of fire as far as the eye can see riding at reckless speed to come to our protection. They will always be there, these armies of heaven, in defense of Abraham’s seed.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "For Times of Trouble", BYU Speeches, March 18, 1980

We all know the story of Elisha and the young boy, who were surrounded by the Syrians wanting to destroy any prophetic influence. But they were not alone.

We are Abraham's seed. Us. You and me. Why wouldn't there be a multitude of hosts on chariots of fire racing to protect us, too? God does not lie. He cannot. So, then, is it still hard to imagine that you or me warrant such protection? That we matter that much?

You can believe and trust that you are of such importance, such significance, that God sends armies in your defense. Your defense! Most of the time, you will not know how many or even if they're there. But, rest assured, they are there! Hosts of them. All ready for battle.

What a sobering and humbling thought.

As mortals, we always put limits on what is possible. We think, "I'm in a mere 10x10 room, how will thousands of battling warriors fit in my little room to fight in my defense?" Honestly, I don't know how. What I do know, without a doubt, is that they are there and they will fight to defend you....and defend me. Trust in that.
