But the revelations do not come as a strike of lightning. They come by counseling together. It is by learning: “Information brings inspiration.” You have to collect information. And then you are in the position to receive revelation when you connect to the Spirit.

I heard this when listening to this podcast and something clicked in my brain. It all of a sudden made sense. I got it. I understood it.
I used to think that just because I have a calling or because my role is a father, that I will automatically receive revelation to guide those under my stewardship, to guide my children.
That's partly true.
But, I need to gather information around those topics first. I need to "discover" what is existing out there. I need to study how to be a good father, how to perform my calling well, or just learn about the gospel and the Plan of Salvation.
It's the same way to receive personal revelation. I have to gather information, I have to study, I have to ponder. Then will Heavenly Father work through that spiritual conduit to my mind and heart.
Everything Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do is for me and for you. I have to live my life in a way that shows them that everything I do is for them. That's the only reason we're here. To learn how to do that.
