July 14, 2020 - Still uphill?

[Y]ou may not get to where you want to go in a day or a week or even a year. But, if you continue to place one foot in front of the other and strive each day to follow your plan, things will work out and you will reach your goals.
You will certainly find surprises and unexpected challenges during your adventure, but those are really the things that make an interesting and successful story – your life story!
And, please remember, that if you trust in the Lord, learn of Him, have faith in Him, He will direct your path.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "A Call For Heroes", BYU-Pathway Devotional, July 14, 2020

We are all in the midst, especially today, of surprises and unexpected challenges. There are two different ways to confront these challenges, in my opinion. I can, for one, look at these circumstances and ask... "Why me? Why now? ", soaking in my self pity. Or.... I can look at these obstacles as a stepping stone to something much greater, putting aside my annoyances and inconveniences now, for a brighter and better tomorrow. Problem is, we have been ingrained and trained for immediate results, not for waiting, for the most part, for our results tomorrow or next week, or even next year.

These times will try us and they are, right now, trying us. But they will also, if we choose, make us stronger, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It's been said that a journey may be up a steep hillside or mountainside, but our legs are getting so strong with each step.

It is the same in every aspect of life. Our journey is and will continue to be uphill. Because anything worth having is at top of a difficult climb. We get stronger with each step, whether physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually, or a combination of them. Point is....we can't afford to rest. We'll start sliding back down the hill and have that much further to make up. Did I mention that our climb may be icy and slippery at times too? One foot in front of the other...always moving forward....no matter how slowly.
