Each of us has a small field to cultivate. While so doing, we must never lose sight of the greater picture, the large composite of the divine destiny of this work. It was given us by God our Eternal Father, and each of us has a part to play in the weaving of its magnificent tapestry. Our individual contribution may be small, but it is not unimportant.
President Gordon B. Hinckley, "An Ensign to the Nations", General Conference, October 1989
It's easy to look at how big the world is and how seemingly insignificant we are. But are we really insignificant?
If you take a larger perspective, you will see just how small this world is. Sometimes we get a glimpse of that. Could it be a momentary change in our perspective, from a mortal perspective to an eternal perspective, causing a change in our thinking?
This work of the Lord is immense in our mortal standards. It involves much much more than just this world.
Seeing the big picture from the eternal perspective, this work makes much more sense. It also shows the grand importance of our seemingly tiny contribution to that work. The Lord needs us. He needs our efforts. He never sees our trying as small or puny or insignificant. He does not perceive it that way. He sees the big picture. He needs us to do our part.
