January 3, 2022 - Too Heavy Alone

We all want something desperately...we want the celestial kingdom. We want to be with our Father in Heaven. And no matter how hard we try, we come up short. At some point we realize, “I can’t do this!” It is at that point that the sweetness of the gospel covenant comes to our taste as the Savior proposes, “I’ll tell you what. All right, you’re not perfect. How much do you have? What can you do? Where are you now? Give me all you’ve got, and I’ll pay the rest.

Stephen E. Robinson, " Parable of the Bicycle"

Sometimes, many times, almost all the time, life is hard. It is difficult. It is so hard sometimes that it's so much easier and less effort to just stop fighting. I'm not suggesting we feel like ending it all, that's not the Plan of Salvation. I am saying that sometimes we just want to rest, to take a break.

Two things happen when we get to this point. One, Satan realizes that we stopped battling and he moves in to strike with all his might (the coward). But, two, Christ also steps to the front to stave off that strike. While He is thwarting that attack from Satan, He is pleading with us to keep going, give Him all the effort we can muster and He'll keep thwarting every attack for us. We just need to keep going.

Give Him everything we can, and He'll take care of the rest!! With my measly 2 ounces to offer to carry, He will carry all the remaining of the 1,000 gigatons. For reference, a pound is 16 ounces. A ton is 2,000 pounds. A kiloton is 1,000 tons. A megaton is 1,000 kilotons. A gigaton is 1,000 megatons. That's over 1 billion tons, times 1,000 of those. That's an immense amount that I cannot contribute. I'm so blessed that He can carry this for me. Otherwise, I'm not moving. In fact, I would be crushed under even a small fraction of 1% of that kind of weight on my shoulders.
