We can’t predict all the struggles and storms in life, not even the ones just around the next corner, but as persons of faith and hope, we know beyond the shadow of any doubt that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true and the best is yet to come.
Elder L. Tom Perry, "Let Him Do It with Simplicity", General Conference, October 2008
It's hard to look past the "now" to see that there is hope and a much better situation on the horizon, especially if that "now" is full of stress, heartache, and worry. That there's something better ahead, maybe just around the corner, is far from our minds.
That's where Jesus Christ and His gospel, especially His atonement, play the most important role in our lives. What He did for us, for you and for me, is the most important event in all of humankind. He fixes our sorrows. He calms our fears. He pieces back all the shattered glass chards to make it better than new. He gives us hope.
Sometimes we think, at least I do, that what is happening to me, whether it be an argument with a spouse, a fight with a friend, the stress of work or school or both, an illness, etc., is a result of something I did, a product of mortality even. It may be, but not always.
It doesn't matter why. Christ will take them all on Himself regardless and alleviate our burden. He won't always free us from them but He will make the load lighter. Part of this process is that we make reparations where necessary. Saying "I'm sorry", too, can be just as significant as "I love you".
So, there are better days ahead. Far better than we can even imagine. Even if we're at peace and happy, there are still better days ahead when we follow Christ. We are promised. And... Christ will help carry our load while we get there.
