“Let us be prayerful. Let us pray for righteousness. Let us pray for the forces of good. Let us reach out to help men and women of goodwill, whatever their religious persuasion and wherever they live. Let us stand firm against evil, both at home and abroad. Let us live worthy of the blessings of heaven, reforming our lives where necessary and looking to Him, the Father of us all. He has said, “Be still, and know that I am God”
President Gordon B. Hinckley, “The Times in Which We Live”, General Conference, October 2001
This talk was given less than a month after 9/11. A prophet of God is telling us to be still amidst the chaos of the world, amidst evil that exists all around us.
He is also telling us to stand firm. Stand firm against evil. Stand firm in your beliefs. Stand firm in holy places.
In this same talk, he tells us that even though we are a peace keeping people, there are times that we need to stand up in defense of our spouses and children, our family, our friends, our nation. Like Captain Moroni, we need to raise our Title of Liberty and not let anyone or anything destroy it.
This Title of Liberty isn’t just for freedoms that we enjoy on a physical, daily life level, i.e., those protected by the Constitution. But also freedom from spiritual slavery and persecution. We are, we have been, and we will continue to be in the middle of a war for our souls. This war is as real as I exist in the flesh. We just don’t pay attention to it because we can’t see it happening. But I guarantee it is affecting us. Like a physical gun shot wound, Satan’s arrows inflict untold damage to us.
Without the armor of God protecting us against those arrows, without the Healer there to heal up are existing wounds, without the scriptures as our freedom protecting Constitution, we will not survive.
