February 27, 2020 – Spiritual Exercise

“My friends, roommates, mentors, and strangers have shown me that living the gospel isn’t a one-size-fits-all exercise.”

  1. Sister Alixa Brobbey, “A Place To Belong”

Living the gospel is a unique process for each of us, between the individual and the Lord. He knows if we are sincerely trying to live the gospel. We can’t deceive Him. We cannot give 50% and He not know. Granted, most everyone doesn’t even give 100% all the time. We are mortal. Point is, He knows when we are being lazy and when we are not.

So, why then, would the results and blessings not be unique for each of us? Each one of us has our own needs, our own desires, our own circumstances, our own perception, our own stresses, our own troubles, and our own trials. Not one of those is the same as another. The Lord knows that. He has blessings and resources at the ready for each of us individually, also depending on which choice we make. We could go many ways. But there is, and always will be, a right way and a not right way (every other way). No middle ground. There is only one straight and narrow path. And it’s called straight and narrow for a reason.

When we choose other than the straight and narrow path, the Lord offers His help to turn us around and once again go down the right way. That help is unique to what we need, at the moment, given our circumstances, our perception, our trials.

Living the gospel IS an exercise. And as with any exercising we do, we get stronger each time we do it. When we live the gospel, it becomes easier to live it the next time. And, as with exercise, the amount we grow depends on how much spiritual weight we are using, how much we use it, our own spiritual muscle mass and spiritual composition, and if we put healthy things into our spiritual bodies (our mind). Our job is to not compare our progress to anybody or anything else. But our job is to at least progress. The Lord will help. He is right beside us. He is ready. All we have to do is ask.
