Now is the time for each of us to work toward our personal conversion, toward becoming what our Heavenly Father desires us to become. As we do so, we should remember that our family relationships—even more than our Church callings—are the setting in which the most important part of that development can occur. The conversion we must achieve requires us to be a good husband and father or a good wife and mother. Being a successful Church leader is not enough. Exaltation is an eternal family experience, and it is our mortal family experiences that are best suited to prepare us for it.
President Dallin H. Oaks, "The Challenge to Become", Ensign, November 2000
It's very comforting, and a bit sobering, to know we will be with our families for eternity. That is why we need to start now to be the person we are supposed to be. Granted, it will take a long while bit that begins now. Exaltation is a family experience.

The Plan of Salvation that our Heavenly Father developed is all about family. It's all about those relationships. Everything is centered on the family. Husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, son and daughter. Everything worthwhile in life is tied to those titles.
That is why Satan is trying so hard to destroy the family. He knows the importance. Do we? I know I don't fully understand. But focusing on being a better husband, a better father, and better grandfather, a better son, a better brother, even a better person, will get me closer to understanding the eternal family plan.
Understanding Christ and the gospel of Christ is to understand family.
