February 20, 2021 - Personage of Spirit

He has the best advice, and wants to give it. He is the most courageous companion and wants to stand near. He is the most optimistic encourager and seeks to tell us what He sees in us every day. He is the world’s best gift giver. His gifts are always perfect, thoughtful, and exactly what we always wanted even when we didn’t know we needed them. He knows how to lead us, correct us, and help us become better versions of ourselves than we ever knew we could be. But for so many, He sits quietly, close by, cheering in silence, and waiting for a chance to give more.

David Butler, "Spirit: The Gift That Connects You To Heaven", Deseret Book 2020

I've always had this idea in my head that the Holy Ghost, the third member of the Godhead, is some almost mythical being that envelopes a person like a cloud or a fog does across the land.

Well, part of that is true. He does envelope us with a blanket of strength and comfort, but He is anything but mystical. I think, because He is a spirit, who is ever present, it is incomprehensible to me to picture Him as an actual person, a being. I can't fathom the idea of Him being everywhere, yet right next to me at the same time.

But He is a person, like you and me, except without a physical body, so He can be everywhere at the same time. In a way, unknown to me, I can feel His influence at the exact same time someone on the other side of the world can feel His influence too. I know that is true. But I don't know how a person can do that. I don't have to know how though. It's not for my finite way of understanding right now. And I'm fine with that.
