We know from the scriptures that as the Nephites were prospering, they would forget the Lord in their lives. This would happen again and again until they “needed” the Lord once again in their lives.
It’s human nature for us to not turn to a higher power for help when things are going right. We think that things are in control, our control, and that we don’t need any help navigating through life. It’s only when we seem to lose that control that we reach out.
It’s exactly when things are going right that we have the opportunity to grow and progress so much more. Think of it like this….when we start forgetting the Lord, we start doing the wrong things and start digging a hole for ourselves. When that hole gets deep enough, we look for help getting out.
But as things are right, if we still remember the Lord in everything, then we get lifted to a higher plane. It is there that real growth happens. We are not focused on correcting wrongs or getting out of a hole. Thus, we are focused on perfecting ourselves. We start reaching for better things, better and more knowledge, greater treasures of heaven, more alignment with the eternities.
