December 22, 2021 - Fear Not

None of us are immune from pain, sorrow, and heartache. But in those moments, we can be lifted by the angel’s words: “Fear not” (Luke 2:10). And we can be strengthened by the Lord’s words: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Michael J. McNeil, "Fear Not", Liahona, December 2021

I think to some degree we are all afraid of dying. Probably not because of the unknown aspect of what lies next, but most likely because we are not spiritually where we want or need to be....at least that is why I'm a bit afraid to pass right now.

I'm reminded of the Bruce R. McConkie address where he says that as long as we are on the path, irregardless of where we are on that path, we will be okay. The trick is to get on the path in the first place and knowing exactly what that means.

I'm so grateful that I will not be judged based on my actions only, just as world seems to judge us, but on my heart and my desire. Heavenly Father knows my heart. He knows how hard I'm trying (or not trying as it were).

Still, it's hard not to be a little scared of what comes next. The finality and importance of this life in the great Plan of Happiness and how I understand it, leaves a little fear in my heart. I struggle with that. I struggle with complete trust in Him when He says to "fear not". I'm still working on that. I'd imagine I'll be working on that for quite some time until I feel at complete peace and there's no fear or apprehension in my heart.
