Astonishingly, to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, it is clear that the Father and the Son are giving away the secrets of the universe! If only you and I can avoid being offended by their generosity.
Elder Neil A. Maxwell, "Meek and Lowly", BYU Speeches, October 21, 1986
In sacrament meeting today, the speaker mentioned a talk by President Nelson where he suggested that we find a quiet place to pour out our souls to Heavenly Father and just talk to Him. Then, write down every thought, every idea, every impression that we get get. He said to do this daily.
Heavenly Father and Christ are telling us, even now, of what we need to do. They are telling us which direction to go. They are telling us how to fix problems in our lives. They are telling us the secrets of the universe. Indeed, They are answering us according to the desires of our hearts. We just need to listen.
We need to have ears to hear Them. Pride, selfishness, and stubbornness is not allowing us to listen.
Elder Maxwell talks about meekness and lowliness of heart. The world would define being lowly or meek as being weak, or being stepped on. It doesn't see meekness as powerful. Yet, the power of God is greater than any worldly power, times infinity, and more meekness equals being more like Christ. You can't get more powerful than that.
Meekness is how that pride is stripped away, how that selfishness is turned into selflessness, and how that stubbornness is turned into humility...thereby, opening the ears to hear and the eyes to see, spiritually speaking, and listening to what They are telling us and seeing what They are showing us. Meekness is like spiritual hearing aids or corrective lenses.
