August 22, 2020 - Hope!!

Hope is critical to both faith and charity. When disobedience, disappointment, and procrastination erode faith, hope is there to uphold our faith. When frustration and impatience challenge charity, hope braces our resolve and urges us to care for our fellowmen even without expectation of reward. The brighter our hope, the greater our faith. The stronger our hope, the purer our charity.
The things we hope for lead us to faith, while the things we hope in lead us to charity. The three qualities—faith, hope, and charity—working together, grounded on the truth and light of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, lead us to abound in good works.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "The Infinite Power of Hope", General Conference, October 2008

Elder Pullin put together a video for the Antioch Facebook page from this talk by Elder Uchtdorf, he did it complete with background music, which makes the message penetrate more into the heart.

The above is an excerpt from that video and talk.

Elder Uchtdorf teaches that there are two types of hope: that which we hope for and that which we hope in.

Our hope for, is for some event yet to happen, like the Second Coming, and ultimately eternal life with Heavenly Father and our loved ones. This kind of hope sustains us through hard times because we know that better days are in store for us after this life, even for forever. Hence faith!

Our hope in, as Elder Uchtdorf explains, keep us sustained in our daily journey as we go through this mortal life. It keeps us going as we pass through trials, challenges, discouragement, heartache, and difficulty. Our hope in Christ and His gospel make it so we desire to be better and to help others through their difficulties also. Hence charity!

Hope affords us the ability to wade through the challenges and difficulties of life. Hope is our life jacket, keeping our heads above water so we don't get pulled down into the depths.
