I would like to discuss one of the most significant gifts given to the world in modern times. The gift I am thinking of is more important than any of the inventions and technological revolutions. This is a gift of greater value to mankind than even the many wonderful advances we have seen in modern medicine. It is of greater worth to mankind than the development of flight or space travel. I speak of the gift of the Book of Mormon.
President Ezra Taft Benson, “A Witness and a Warning: A Modern Day Prophet Testifies of the Book of Mormon”
The Book of Mormon is the keystone to our religion. We've heard that many times. But have you ever thought about what a keystone is? It is defined as a wedge shaped stone set in the crown of an arch, holding all of the other pieces in place.
What does that mean exactly? Well, it is not just another stone in the architecture of an arch. It is the stone that supports all others. It means, that if it isn't there to hold every other piece in place, the entire arch would crumble.
Have you ever thought about life without the Book of Mormon? Especially life as a member of the church without the Book of Mormon? Think about that. Would there even be a church without the Book of Mormon?
Thinking on that makes me appreciate that book more. How important it is. Without it, the entire organization of the church would crumble. It's not just a book. It is the word of God. It is another testament of Christ. It clarifies truths and even educates the reader on further light and knowledge.
Just think..there are at least 10 other histories from the lost tribes on which we are not familiar....yet. I will try to appreciate this one that I do have somewhat more. And learn from it. And listen to it. Most importantly, live it.
