August 1, 2021 - Anchored to the Foundation

I have heard some teach that the Book of Mormon is a handbook [for the Second Coming of the Savior]. That preparation will not be free from opposition. You have an obligation to participate fully in this wonderful and sometimes tumultuous time of preparation. We simply cannot afford to be anchored to anything less consequential than the saving rock of our Redeemer.

Jay E. Jensen, "Building upon the Rock", BYU Speeches, March 10, 2009

I have said it before, one of my all time favorite scriptures is Helaman 5:12.

"... that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

We must constantly strengthen the foundation we are standing on. Constantly. Let me rephrase... because nothing, absolutely nothing, is stronger than Christ, so when I say "strengthen our foundation", Christ IS the foundation and we can't strengthen that any further, which isn't even possible, but we need to strengthen our anchor points to that foundation. That is what I mean. Strengthen our contact points to it so those points are immovable too.

We cannot afford to let up in doing that, in strengthening our anchor points to our foundation. We just can't. Not anymore. Now is the time we all must decide if we will solidify our strongholds on our foundation in Christ or not. If we don't, we allow the storms of life to rip us from that foundation. They are getting more powerful and increasing in intensity and frequency. We no longer have the luxury of being wishy washy or "luke warm" as Jesus calls it.

I, too, need to work on making my anchor points stronger. I probably need to do that more than most. But let's do that together. Let's make a cognizant decision to do that. Still enjoy the beauties of this life, but let's set our priorities correctly and work hard to reach our goals, "by the sweat of our brows", physically as well as spiritually.
