The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; … the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.
Prophet Joseph Smith, "Standard of Truth", History of the Church, Vol. 4, page 540
One of the themes of general conference today has been the subject of missionary work, of gathering Israel on both sides of the veil.
Of course, I reflected on my own full-time missionary service, the full-time missionary service done by my son, and my daughter contemplating on her eventual missionary service, and that service of other friends and family. But, our command to gather Israel is not just missionary service, although that's a big part. Gathering Israel, as President Nelson said, is whenever we do anything to help anyone, on either side of the veil, to make and keep covenants...then we are gathering Israel.
As members of the Lord's church, and as ones who have the truth, we are held to a higher standard. We are expected to live that standard and help others to live it too. That's gathering Israel. We gather Israel by living the gospel so that others will follow our example. That's first and foremost. We must, ourselves, live the higher standard.
This truth will move forward... this work will move forward. It cannot be stopped. The only question we need to ask ourselves is if we will be a part of it or not. If we are a part of it, then we will be "richly blessed".
