When difficult times come to us, we can remember that Jesus had to descend below all things before he could ascend above them, and that he suffered pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind that he might be filled with mercy and know how to succor his people in their infirmities.
To those who stagger or stumble, he is there to steady and strengthen us. In the end he is there to save us, and for all this he gave his life. However dim our days may seem they have been darker for the Savior of the world.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "This Do in Remembrance of Me", General Conference, October 1995
It is very interesting to me to think that Christ's ONLY purpose, His ONLY reason for His mission, is to help us and save us....you and me!
He took no thought about food, about clothing, and about sleeping, about resting. He ONLY thought of us.
As hard as I try, I can never just think about another and not of myself. I just can't. I think about eating, about sleeping, about responsibilities that day with work and family, about taking a break. I HAVE to think of myself, I cannot avoid it. This is mortal and this is mortal life.
So, how did He only think of others and not Himself? I can't fathom that. His purpose and His glory is to help each of us reach immortality and eternal life. He does nothing else.
You would think that He would need a rest now and again, right? He does not take a breather. I don't know how He does this.
All He asks is that we also remember Him. Not always in thought....try as we might, we just can't....but we remember Him also in what we do and how we act and how we feel. And... in who we are.
That's how we remember Him....despite the darkness we have to feel our way through, we can remember Him. With Him, there is ALWAYS light. Remember, He had to pass through complete darkness. We don't....ever.
